Ceppant a bright and light-bodied white, with notes of fresh tomatoes and tart blackberries.
This wine hails from Ceppailo, a tiny two-hectare vineyard which was rescued by winemakers Danilo Marcucci and Riccardo Pennaforti after they visited the site and discovered it had 70-year-old vines (some of the oldest in the region!).
The cellar is a stone shed housing original 50s winemaking equipment, including an old vertical press, which they are still using to make their wines. Danilo, known as the "Yoda of Winemaking" for his vast knowledge of making wine the natural wine and sage advice to other winemakers, refers to Ceppaiolo as his ‘happy place'. The vinyard, to an untrained eye, is not unlike an overgrown and much loved garden, full of wildlife and old vines. Danilo does not want to age his wines, and believes ‘If a wine is full of sulphites, of course it can age, but it’s not really aging, it’s mummified. I’m interested in the life of a wine.’
