This wine is an incredible example of how complex and structured an exceptionally well made amber wine can be, with layers upon layer of aromatic, floral, herbaceous and perfumed notes. Made from Tamjanika, a local Serbian varietal of Muscat, grown in Sremski Karlovci, Fruška Gora, Serbia.

The Tamjanika grape is named after “Tamjan”, the Serbian word for “Frankinsence”, due to the ripe grape’s intense perfume which can famously be smelt all around the vinyards where it is planted. Tamjanika is a popular wine grape in Serbia, but its expression in this wine is unlike anything else in the Serbian wine tradition. Rather than super light, floral and refreshing white wines that the variety is known for, Baša's Tamjanika is a more serious and intense amber wine yet still fresh and aromatic with herbaceous bitters and a touch of spiced iced tea flavours. Destined for a place at the table at the word’s greatest restaurants.

We have very small quantity of Tamjanika 2018, having secured the last of the vintage from Baša.

Let this wine breathe before consuming (can be served decanted, or not, it's up to you).

Recomended to be serve slightly chilled, 12-16 degrees C (but we like it straight from the fridge!).

About the winemaker:

Baša Vino is the small family natural wine project by winemaker Bojan Baša, bottling limited quantities of extremely high quality natural amber wines. Baša’s vinyards are located in Serbia on the right bank of Danube river, in Sremski Karlovci on Fruška Gora mountain between Novi Sad and Belgrade. Baša uses organic and biodynamic practices and preparations without the use of any pesticides, herbicides, insecticides or artificial fertilisers. In the cellar Baša practices low intervention, working traditionally without the use of modern enological preparations. Baša works with indigenous Serbian varieties such as Tamjanika, Furmint and Morava, and from spring 2021 Grašac Beli and Prokupac. Currently the only international variety he works with is Pinot Grigio.

Additional tasting notes:

“This is not your mommy's Tamjanika, light, aromatic and easy. Rather, this is a gastronomic wine with a serious grip and intensity. Like walking through a tea and spice shop, this lures you in with its bouquet, while the palate develops like Scorsese's movie plot, slowly revealing all of its complexity, leading to a memorable ending. The air helps peel off each layer, so best to wait and don't be shy to ponder on this one.” Aleks Zečević, wine writer.
